We are delighted to announce that we are supporting the Sheffield Children’s Hospital by making The Children’s Hospital Charity our official charity partner for 2020.
Over the next twelve months and beyond, we will be raising vital funds for a new helipad on the roof of the children’s hospital. This will allow for more critically ill children to get the vital treatment they need more quickly.
Each year Sheffield Children’s NHS Trust cares for more than 56,000 Accident & Emergency admissions. In 2018, 15% of these arrivals were by air ambulance. These can only land in daylight hours because there is inadequate lighting in the nearby park. This reduces its operation considerably in the winter months which can have a critical impact on getting children to the hospital. The new helipad would mean patients can land anytime with flood lighting. When the weather sets in, the new helipad would have electric trace heating incorporated into the deck to ensure that ice and snow do not disrupt the continued use of the facility during periods of inclement weather.
Tchad Western, Corporate Partnerships Manager at The Children’s Hospital Charity was a huge driving force in us getting involved with the charity this year. His very obvious passion for the cause and his ability to demonstrate the need for vital improvements won us over immediately.
Tchad Western, said, “We are thrilled that CT is getting involved with the Charity this year. This new Helipad has never been more needed, to help patients arrive at our Emergency Department as quickly as possible. As a nationally-designated Major Trauma Centre, our Emergency Department serves children from across South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire. Contributions from CT will help ensure that patients don’t endure a lengthy transfer in a road ambulance or trolley, causing further discomfort and delaying life-saving treatment from the specialist doctors at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.”
To help raise funds, we have a number of initiatives planned. We will be sponsoring a ‘Bear of Sheffield’, which will see over 60 bears on the streets and in the parks of Sheffield over the summer months for people to visit and show support for the children’s hospital.
Three of us here at CT will also be carrying out an epic challenge which is both physically and mentally tough. In September, alongside the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, we will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world in support of raising money for the new helipad.
And, as a business, to help raise even more money, we are committing to match all customer donations at point of purchase for any product or service.
The Children’s Hospital is a charity that is close to many of our hearts and a charity that makes a real difference to so many families’ lives.
