Background
As a Business Development Consultant, you will collaborate with a range of customers, industries and sizes to understand the risks presented as well as identify solutions that best fit their needs. Your primary responsibility will be to assist our sales team to deliver our strategic review process which maps out the technology strategy for our customers.
You would work closely with other members of the Professional Services team of Consultants, Head of Infrastructure, Account Managers as well as other key stakeholders to develop a detailed report which helps the customer plan for the next 3 years.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of the business and its transition into a leading, national technology partner.

The Business Development Consultant will work closely with CT’s customers both existing and new to design, scope and present the right solution to our customers while also delivering a customer ‘technology road map strategy and report’ for customers engaging in our strategic reviews.
We place a high importance on our strategic review process, utilising the information gathered from kick off meetings, thorough review of current infrastructure, and alignment with any frameworks the customer may adhere to. As such the person must have a keen eye for detail and be able to communicate effectively to explain the findings. The report is delivered in person in conjunction with the Account Manager to seek agreement from the customer with the proposed approach to rectify the risks.
You will assist with research and development of CT’s technology and service needs of our customers. The development of our solutions and services is key to ensure that these meet the needs of our ever-developing customer base while ensuring that our services align to customers frameworks (i.e.) DSP framework and industry best practices.
Key responsibilities will include:
- To deliver technical solutions/services across a wide spectrum of environments
- Work closely with the customer to provide a successful relationship and excellent customer service
- Continually review our current services to ensure CT is in line with industry standards feeding back into the product board areas of improvement
- Continually keep up to date with the latest security and technology developments within the marketplace
- Work with our Sales team to develop the understanding and importance of clear strategic solutions as well as security considerations for a business
- Provide internal training to upskill our current Operations team to consistently deliver our service offerings
- Identifying technologies that can be used to improve CT’s products and services to our customers through CT’s product board
- Ensure that CT’s technology solutions and services meet the short and long-term needs our customers
- Provide regular training sessions for CT’s sales team to ensure they keep abreast of the latest technologies and CT’s security offerings
- Identify opportunities to improve and enhance customers services and security controls as well as where possible rectify any security weaknesses or vulnerabilities through our strategic engagements
- To act (when required) as the IT Manager role for nominated customers advising on current/future technology strategic developments
- Maintains, develops and contributes to the company’s processes and systems
Key success criteria
To be successful in this role you will need to be someone who communicates effectively and demonstrates a technical, commercial and financial understanding of CT’s services. Previous experience of services within the IT or MSP industry is essential.
To develop our strategic reporting service ensuring that its aligned with CT’s ISO27001 accreditations as well as meets the needs of our customers to help mitigate potential risks to their business through the use of technology and services.
An ability to understand key business technology and security drivers to develop CT’s technical presales solutions and strategic reporting either as a silo service or recurring managed service offering to our customers.
The successful candidate must have the following experience:
- A proven track record in a technical role within a technical environment
- Proven experience as a Professional Services Consultant, Solution design role, IT Manager or similar senior technical engineering role
- Providing strategic recommendations at a sales and operational level through knowledge and experience
- Familiar with proposing solutions to senior staff highlighting value and benefits
- The ability to build relationships and work holistically across CT to assist teams in using and developing the use our Managed Services/solutions.
- Willingness to stay up to date regarding the latest technological advances in-line with CT’s strategic plan
- Strong technical ability in deployment of technical solutions into customers
- A strategic thinker with a consultative approach
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
- A strong understanding and adherence of processes and functions
- Experience identifying and developing strategic services/technology solutions as well as strategic service plans across a multi-function technology business
- Good all-round commercial acumen and an ability to identify opportunities that will drive increased profits and profitability through technology and services
- Experience in evaluating technology to identify the needs of a business
- Experience with managing and assisting customer through Cyber Essentials and Plus certifications
- A strong communicator both written and spoken
Location:
There will be a mixture of working from our office in Chesterfield, home working and visiting UK wide customer offices.
