Major Datacentre Upgrades to Meet Growing Demand in Cloud and Connectivity Services
We are delighted to announce Central Technology now operate one of the UK’s fastest backhaul networks, with 100Gbps connections between our key datacentre locations. This provides major benefits for our customers including rapid, high volume data transfer, improved reliability and scalability.
Our infrastructure team have been busy making two significant upgrades to our datacentre infrastructure over the past few months in response to the surging demand for enhanced connectivity and cloud services. These enhancements have strengthened our connectivity, capacity and resiliency, ensuring we meet and exceed customer expectations.
Chris Barr, our Technical Director, explains the importance of these advancements and outlines our ongoing commitment to meeting customer requirements.

Expansion to Equinix MA5: Enhancing Connectivity and Resiliency
To meet the growing demand for our UK cloud-based services, we have now expanded our datacentre locations to include Equinix’s flagship site, Manchester MA5. As one of the key network interconnect hubs in the UK, MA5 offers superfast, low-latency connections directly into other networks. Many major networks have already identified MA5 as a strategic exchange point. The state-of-the-art facility has industry-leading resiliency and availability since its opening in 2022.
MA5 is set to become the largest network hub in Manchester, attracting providers from other datacentres in the area. This hub allows us to enhance our connectivity by adding another connection to the Microsoft Azure Peering service and the LINX Manchester Internet Exchange. At MA5, we have deployed 100Gbps optical services supplied by Neos Networks, 40Gbps dark fibre into our existing datacentre at Manchester Science Park, and state-of-the-art Juniper MX routers to ensure substantial bandwidth capacity.
Additionally, we have built an extra Veeam Cloud Connect platform at MA5. This means we can deliver industry-leading Veeam Cloud Connect services from all three of our datacentre locations. We are also developing a new Virtual Private Server platform which will enable us to extend our VPS services across multiple datacentres for increased capacity and resiliency.

Now operating one the UK’s fastest backhaul networks with new 100Gbps optical core network
From the infrastructure upgrades made by the team, we have managed to significantly upgrade our core network. With 100Gbps fibre optic circuits provided by Neos Networks connecting to our key datacentre locations. This allows us to accommodate increasing customer requirements and the growing demand for our connectivity and cloud services platforms
Because of this, we now operate one of the UK’s fastest backhaul networks, featuring 100Gbps connections between key datacentre locations. Our state-of-the-art Juniper MX routers provides high bandwidth to seamlessly re-route traffic over resilient connections in milliseconds. These features enable us to offer our bespoke end-to-end managed solutions, including Connectivity, Telephony, Virtual Private Server, Cloud Backup, and Object Storage platforms tailored to our customers’ needs.
Our core network is the backbone of CT and the services we deliver. By peering with numerous networks, we can ensure direct, low-latency routes to major UK networks via the London Internet Exchange and Microsoft services through our Microsoft Azure Peering interconnect. This provides optimal connectivity between on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud environments.
